Adagio

In harried silence I make my way
To the theatre ruled by silence’s trance
That for but a few minutes today
She and I may once again have a chance

In longing freedom again I wait
For the woman whom I shan’t forget
Whose face is imprinted on my blank slate
Whose meeting to this day I never regret

Though everytime that our hands touch
I’m nothing more than another dance
Though long before we’ve done so much

By the subtle sound of the adagio
I take her once more upon this stage
Another chance I dare not forgo
Lest regret it for another age

Time is short I bring her close
Letting all her fingers fall in my caress
Her touch as real as a delicate rose
Defying once more the loneliness

She sways to the beat of her lifeless heart
The piano guiding the way
Falling captive to the tragic art
That keeps her so perfect today

The rhapsody comes to its glorious halt
And the lights fade one by one
Our hands separate from the dying waltz
And at that moment were done

With a plastered smile she waves goodbye
A smile she’ll hold for all eternity
A smile she’s kept to the day she died
A smile she’d given a plenty

She dies once more when the music ends
I die once more when she fades away
Though my search for her I’ll never rend
Awaiting the next musician to play
